In 1782, Franciscan Father Junipero Serra raised a wooden cross on the mountain overlooking his newly established Mission San Buenaventura. Once used as a road sign for travelers in search of the Mission, the cross now rests within the 107-acre Botanical Gardens. 

Grant Park is a historic, serene hilltop park with panoramic views of Ventura and the Channel Islands. 

You can reach the cross by hiking via the Botanical Gardens or driving to the top. By car, take California Street up the hill, turn left on Poli St, then right onto Brakey Road to reach the free parking area, which is open from dawn to dusk.

Located right behind City Hall, the 107-acre Botanica Gardens offer one of the most scenic walking paths in the region. The trail winds through Mediterranean flora and leads to the summit with spectacular 360-degree views of the city, the Santa Ynez Mountains, and the Pacific Ocean.

Exercise and nature lovers can enjoy a scenic uphill walk through the Botanical Gardens to two notable scenic spots: the summit of the Botanical Gardens and to Grant Park.
